Workshops

Workshops are designed to build specific skills to address many of the most common concerns our students experience. We offer both open-access / a-la-carte workshops, as well as more in-depth multi-session workshops. In these sessions, facilitators teach about various mental health concepts, introduce coping strategies, create space for practice and discussion, and encourage students to learn from each other. Please check individual workshop descriptions for details about format and how to participate.

To attend our open access workshops, students do not need to have prior contact with CAPS and can join sessions even if they have not attended previous sessions in the series. Please see individual workshop descriptions below for information on locations.

Please note, in-person workshops have limited capacity and will be first come first serve. Workshop sessions will close after approximately 10 minutes past the start time.

Procrastination in competing planned tasks is a source of academic and personal stress for many people! This workshop will address common causes of procrastination, including perfectionism and external pressures. We will explore the thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that often prevent us from being as productive and on-task as we would like. We will discuss practical tools to improve time management and accountability, along with cognitive and emotion management skills

Our clinical/ fixed series workshops provide students with a deeper dive into mental health information and strategies. To participate in these workshops, students need to have attended an Initial Consultation with a clinician at CAPS in order to ensure the workshop is a good fit for their current needs. Please contact CAPS at 704-687-0311 or email (caps@charlotte.edu) for more information.

This three-session workshop is rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy. The workshop aims to help you understand anxiety symptoms and build skills to manage these symptoms, creating your own individualized coping plan in the process. The modules include:  (1) understanding anxiety, (2) introducing a method for slowing down and disentangling the experience of anxiety, and (3) developing alternative responses to anxiety.

Each round of the workshop runs once a week for 3 consecutive weeks. Each week’s material builds on the last, so students are asked to attend all sessions in the workshop.
