Welcome and thank you for your interest in the UNC Charlotte Counseling and Psychological Services doctoral internship! We hope that our website will provide you with all the information you need to know about our training program. 

UNC Charlotte Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is housed in the Division of Student Affairs. The professional staff is currently composed of 8 doctoral-level psychologists, 5 licensed clinical social workers, 1 doctoral-level marriage and family therapist, and 1 doctoral-level counselor educator. CAPS also occasionally employs part-time psychologists, social workers, and counselors. CAPS serves the student body providing three types of services: (a) remedial services designed to address existing problems impairing the individual's ability to function successfully, (b) preventative services designed to avert difficulties before they emerge, and (c) services directed toward the mastery of developmental tasks.

UNC Charlotte is a Doctoral and Research Intensive institution and has the largest research library in the Southern Piedmont region with more than one million volumes.

With accreditation from the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, UNC Charlotte offers 9 colleges: College of Arts & Architecture, College of Humanities, Earth, and Social Sciences, College of Science, Belk College of Business, College of Computing & Informatics, Cato College of Education, William States Lee College of Engineering, College of Health & Human Services, and University College.  UNC Charlotte has 170 programs leading to Bachelor's degrees, 64 programs leading to Master's degrees and 24 programs leading to Doctoral degrees. The University comprises seven professional colleges and currently offers 18 doctoral programs, 62 master's degree programs and 90 bachelor's degrees.

More than 900 full-time faculty comprise the university's academic departments and the fall enrollment exceeded 30,000 students. UNC Charlotte boasts more than 100,000 living alumni and adds 4,000 to 4,500 new alumni each year. U.S. News & World Report recognized UNC Charlotte as one of the ten most innovative colleges and universities in the country and for producing more start-up businesses than any other college or university. The UNC Charlotte student population is culturally diverse in many respects including gender, race and ethnicity, domestic and international student status, ability, sexual identity, and academic developmental level.

 

Charlotte lies in the Southern Piedmont region of the state with easy access to the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains and the popular ocean beaches of North and South Carolina. The largest city in the Carolinas, it offers a variety of cultural and entertainment opportunities, including the Mint Museums, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, the Harvey Gantt Center for African American Arts and Culture, the Levine Museum of the New South, Discovery Place, Spirit Square Arts Center, the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, the NC Music Factory, Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, the Charlotte Symphony, Carowinds Amusement Park, Charlotte Motor Speedway, the U.S. National Whitewater Center, the NFL's Carolina Panthers , the NBA's Charlotte Hornets, and the new MLS’s Charlotte FC.  Charlotte hosts numerous festivals and offers diverse nightclubs, restaurants, and theaters. The city is also an international gateway, offering direct air flights to Europe, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
