Welcome and thank you for your interest in the UNC Charlotte Counseling and Psychological Services doctoral internship! We hope that our website will provide you with all the information you need to know about our training program.
1. Diverse Students - Our student body is very diverse (for example, more than one-third of UNC Charlotte students are first generation college students) and that diversity is well-represented in the clients we serve at CAPS.
2. Groups Program - We have a robust groups program, offering a wide range of therapy groups, themed groups, workshops, and drop in group spaces; our group case conference offers in depth training in interpersonal process group facilitation.
3. Charlotte - Charlotte is a diverse and growing city that offers all the amenities of a large metropolitan area, while also being within driving distance of the mountains and the beach. If you’d prefer not to drive, hop on the light rail, which connects our campus to the rest of the city.
4. Multicultural Training - Our center prioritizes training in multicultural counseling and commitment to social justice. The Community In-reach Project that each intern completes is an excellent example of how our interns connect to student populations that are often marginalized or underserved.
5. Multidisciplinary Staff - Interns gain valuable experience working on a multidisciplinary team and collaborating with other campus professionals.
6. Supervision Experience - Interns at CAPS get experience providing supervision to doctoral students and excellent training and support through our Supervision of Supervision seminar.
7. Beautiful Office Space - We moved into a beautiful new building in 2017 and our interns have loved their new offices.
8. Research Time - We support our interns in completing dissertation or other research pursuits by allotting a block of weekly research hours.
9. Therapeutic Assessment - Interns get valuable experience using a variety of assessment measures and integrating clinical assessment into the therapy process.
10. Staff Involvement - We are passionate about training! At CAPS, our entire staff is involved in training and supervision.
