Issues relevant to the Trans and Gender Non-Conforming community have exploded into our national awareness lately as some very public people have begun sharing their transition process with us.

Ian Harvie, Transgender comedian and star of the award-winning new Amazon show, Transparent, will visit the UNC Charlotte campus as the OUTSpoken guest speaker at 7:00pm Tuesday, October 27, in McKnight Hall in the Cone University Center.

OUTSpoken is an annual speaker series on the UNC Charlotte campus showcasing LGBTQ speakers and creating a forum for discussion of LGBTQ issues. Harvie is the ninth speaker in the OUTSpoken series which has included speakers representing the range of LGBTQ identities.

Harvie is an acclaimed Transgender standup comic who in his unabashed comedic style brings previously off-limits topics into the conversation. In his cross-country comedy act, he pokes fun at topics from top surgery, to his fear of public restrooms, to his active sex life. Harvie uniquely queers the traditional macho, sex-obsessed world of stand up, proving that laughter cuts across all gender identities and ultimately unites us all.
